FIREARM CLEANING & RESTORATION

Anyone who owns a firearm should know how to clean and lube it. Aegis Pointe Gunsmithing's clients certainly do! However, many don't have the time to clean them before or after a hunt or trip to the range. That's when they call on Aegis Pointe Gunsmithing. We use only the best products on the market to clean and lube your handgun, rifle, and shotgun. At your request, we either field strip your firearm and clean and lube it thoroughly, or, if you prefer, we provide detailed cleaning: we completely disassemble, clean, lube, function check, safety check, and reassemble. For both basic and detailed cleaning, we'll inspect your firearm and point out areas of wear and concern that may need to be addressed immediately or in the near future. Our gunsmith treats every firearm as his own!

The cost of Basic and Detailed Firearm Cleaning or Firearm Restoration varies according to the age, condition, and type of firearm, along with any additional work requested or needed. Below is a range of approximate costs for Basic and Detailed Cleaning:

Shotguns $35–$50 $70–$85
Rifles $35–$55 $75–$90

BASIC FIREARM CLEANING
Basic cleaning includes a field strip disassembly. Each major component is cleaned to remove any carbon, lead, or copper buildup. Depending on the amount of fouling found, we use a brass or nylon bore and chamber brush to remove it. We then soak the barrel with an appropriate solvent, running as many patches as needed to produce the best results. After several passes of dry patches, we coat the barrel interior with a light application of oil or CLP solution. We'll also lubricate any moving parts according to factory specifications so that your firearm will be ready for immediate use in the field, on the range, or for concealed carry.

After assembly, we'll function and safety check your firearm. Finally, we'll lightly oil the external surface to protect your firearm from rust and corrosion. If you intend to store your firearm for an appreciable length of time, we'll recommend a slightly more viscous oil, which should be removed before you use your firearm.
DETAILED CLEANING
Detailed cleaning includes everything that we do in our Basic Cleaning. However, we completely disassemble your firearm. We clean every major and minor component by hand and/or in an ultrasonic bath. All internal and external surfaces are meticulously cleaned and lubed. We also utilize a bore scope to check the interior of the barrel, bore, and chamber to assure there are no cracks or suspect spots. We pay special attention to small parts such as pins, springs, firing pin, breech face, safety, and other vital components.

After cleaning and lubing all moving parts with oil or CLP, we carefully reassemble your firearm and function and safety check it. Screws and bolts are torqued to factory specifications when known. Finally, we'll lightly oil the external surface to protect your firearm from rust and corrosion. Your firearm will be ready for immediate use in the field, on the range, or for concealed carry.
FIREARM RESTORATION
Aegis Pointe Gunsmithing has successfully restored a variety of firearms both cosmetically and functionally. Although we specialize in making firearms clean, functional, and safe, we have removed external rust from barrels, actions, and side plates to our clients' satisfaction. We have done quite a few "cold blue" jobs as a short-term fix, but we would recommend "hot bluing" or other external coatings for a more durable and permanent solution, which we presently do not offer. If we don't do it, we will recommend you to someone who does.

We've also been able to successfully restore minor scratches and dents to wooden stocks. A cracked stock may be more involved to remedy. But we'll gladly inspect it and offer to attempt repair, refer you to a gunsmith who specializes in wooden stock repair, or recommend a replacement. The same applies to grips on handguns.
